Description

so yeah i made this just for fun, this was inspired by the great war western front and that old flash game, warfare 1917. This started out as a concept game but now it has working campaign AI, somewhat decent battle AI, a working battle system that carries over to the campaign map, and even has historical events to spice it up! music from Company of Heroes 1 and Making History: The Great War, and other sources 9/28/2023 Added the ability to manually halt artillery barrages so you can prevent your own artillery from hitting your men, you get no refund though. Battle AI is now so much smarter, they will actually save their artillery barrages for when an engagement occurs to make the best use of artillery. Finally fixed the bug where the AI does dumb attacks even though they're supposed to be defending. They now also build up their men before committing to an attack, so their attacks will be much more dangerous especially with its increased intelligence with artillery. AI will only attack if they have their artillery barrage ready, and will not attack if they have too little supply and the attack would be risking a complete defeat. 11/3/2023 added autoresolving battles so now you don't have to fight every. single. battle. Results may wildly vary though 11/5/2023 fixed autoresolve bugs and made it so you can click and drag the little circle at the top to zoom across the battlefield quickly. it's pretty neat! 12/2/2023 fixed the bug where post-battle events didn't work and lagged the game, and a lot of battle tweaks. Infantry is less prone to suppression so fights are less one-sided, and most importantly, the chance of death for every soldier in a unit when it gets attacked is now balanced so that units with fewer men die at the same rate as units at full strength, so you'll no longer have cases of single soldiers holding up your attack for a long time. Artillery is now much more deadly and each round can kill more than 1 soldier now, so artillery works much better against tightly grouped bunches of units and densely packed trenches. As a tradeoff, artillery now has a 4 second wait time between the time you order a barrage and the time the shells actually fall. There'll be some artillery noises in the background and the shells will explode when the whistling noise disappears. Finally, added some graphics and sound for when you capture or lose a trench. 12/5/2023 fixed savegame variable patching so now loading old savegames shouldn't be as buggy, and added more rifle sounds :D big changes to the battles, now you have to storm the trench and take it in melee combat instead of shooting it, thankfully your troops get a charge speed bonus when approaching enemies in a trench so they can close the distance faster 12/18/2023 vastly improved battle ai that can now properly time its artillery barrages with their assaults 2/8/2024 AI can offer ceasefire if it feels that it is too risky to continue fighting, and you can accept by clicking a white flag button twice to save time. Greatly improved the supply system so that now you can have encirclements that are bigger than 1 region, cleaned up region connections 2/9/2024 added minimap at top of screen showing trenches and units, added more death sounds, a telephone sound for calling up artillery, and made AI more willing to offer ceasefire at low supply. Infantry/artillery cooldowns now very slightly decreased the more supply you have, so the side with more supply can put out units a bit faster. 10 supply = -0.1 sec cooldown, British troops are less likely to appear the further south you are fighting, added a more detailed region report by pressing R. The battle music fades out as the stalemate counter ticks down so it's a smoother transition. The stalemate button and halt artillery button now require a double click to guard from misclicks

Type "y" in the dialog that pops up to attack. Press R to get a region report of the region you are currently mousing over In battle, you put your mouse to the left or right of the screen if you want to scroll left or right. Press left and right arrow keys for fine scrolling, this is very useful for aiming artillery barrages. Click on your infantry units to tell them to go over the top, and while they're in the open, you can press A to make them attack or D to make them defend the next trench In battle you may notice your soldiers cowering, doing nothing, that is because they are suppressed. Troops become suppressed when they lose men or come under artillery fire. Use this knowledge to your advantage, to make the enemy too suppressed to fight back! hint: Infantry without artillery suffer big losses on the attack. Artillery without infantry only does minimal damage to entrenched enemies. Combine them both in the same attack to create a powerful offensive hint: Regions attacked multiple times during the same turn suffer supply penalties. You can take the most formidable regions by wearing them down with attacks, even if those attacks turn out to be stalemates or defeats hint: you don't have to win every battle, after 20 seconds of no activity from either side it ends in a stalemate and national will changes are calculated based on how many trenches you took or lost in addition to the regular calculation based on casualties. If your supplies are running low, it's preferable to take the stalemate instead of risking defeat hint: A region's supply (which is how many resources can be brought to bear in a battle) is determined by its max star capacity, its current stars, the stars of neighboring allied regions, the number of times it has been attacked, whether it is completely encircled by enemy regions, a hidden supply bonus to edge or important regions, and event bonuses or penalties. If a region is too difficult to capture, try going for weaker regions around it to weaken its supply hint: the enemy ai plays by the same rules as you do. They have all the same cooldowns and only as much supply as they have in their region. This means that when they call an artillery barrage, you know they won't be able to call in another one for a while. Use this to your advantage to move up troops in other areas and make assaults before their artillery recharges
