Description

A more faithful recreation of a Genesis Sonic game's menus. This is just a fun passion project I wanted to make out of love for the franchise. It's still very much incomplete, but I feel it's in a good enough state that you can at least see where it's headed/what's possible. Sprites sourced from The Spriters Resource All visuals, audio, etc., from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (c) 1994 SEGA / Sonic Team Recreated as best as possible by Dilan Greene

Instructions

1st Release (6/2? to 11-12-2023 WIP) GENERAL CONTROLS ********************************** Arrow Keys - menu navigation Enter - confirm selection (title screen/level select) Z - confirm selection (all but title screen) X - previous screen (all but title screen) *You can't skip the intro sequence with Enter just yet. 1 PLAYER ************************************************* File Select is accessible but not very functional. The background and music load with no issue, but the files themselves aren't fully implemented. Left and Right will move the files, but it doesn't line up correctly. COMPETITION ******************************************** The Competition menu is much further along. All three sub-menus are loadable, and the Exit button functions properly. The item toggle can be swapped with Left and Right, but the animation breaks sometimes. GRAND PRIX ********************************************** Only the A Player box is implemented. I'm unsure yet what I'm gonna do if you try to select a character. X will take you back to the main Competition screen. MATCH RACE ********************************************* Only the A Player box is implemented. Pressing Z will pull over the course select. It functions right for the most part, but the animation breaks sometimes. Up and Down to pick, and pressing Z will play that stage's music. X takes you back to the Competition screen. TIME ATTACK ********************************************* This menu isn't fully implemented, but the idea is that it's exactly the same as the Match Race menu, except there isn't a 2nd player box. Use it like you would the Match Race menu. X takes you back to Competition. SOUND TEST ********************************************* The level select controls just as you'd expect. Arrows to make a selection. Pressing Enter on any of the stages doesn't do anything (yet*). When Sound Test is highlighted, use Left and Right to select a track and Z to play it. Right now, only music tracks are included and are all in the same order as they would be in the original game. *try entering Special Stage 1 SPECIAL STAGE ****************************************** Z - Jump No directional movement yet. It's essentially just a looping animation. The animations get wonky after jumping but it still (mostly) works. UPDATES (as of 1/28/2024) 1-PLAYER ************************************************* The files now scroll and display properly! For the "already cleared" files you can't scroll through the zones yet, same for the NEW slot where you can't choose a character, but things are wayyy more functional now! The No Save and Delete slots haven't been put in still, but will be eventually. MATCH RACE & TIME ATTACK ************************* Condensed into one note because the change is exactly the same, functionally. The animation when scrolling up/down through the stages doesn't break anymore. Selecting any stage still just plays the music. SPECIAL STAGE ****************************************** Still accessed from SPECIAL STAGE 1 on the Sound Test menu. TURNING is now possible! The animations all work as intended for the floor. Sonic's jump animation still looks funky, working on that...
